Did Apple do the right thing?

I have to say, before the announcement I was firmly on the other side of this issue. The antenna was one of the major factors I was using as a deterrent from purchasing the iPhone 4. But after doing a bit of research, and finding this video, I am now straddling the fence.

I had no idea about other suppliers having troubles with their antenna’s, similar to the iPhone 4. Plus, this time Apple is NOT saying: hey were Apple, so F* you. They are offering reasonable options: (the bumper) or a full refund. What else could you possibly ask for from the company. I would have to believe that the iPhone 4s should probably fix the problem.

Late last night, as I was trying to fall asleep, I had an idea. And I realize that a lot of the time these ideas are either revolutionary, or absolute sh**. So, for transparency sake, and because I think it’s a pretty good idea, I decided to put my idea out there and see what others thought. And if someone skeets my idea and builds an application, make sure to give me lots of love.

Current blog tweets via retweet publish the title, and a link. What if we tweeted a word cloud, so we could get what the actual article is about. Instead of some ridiculous title that could end up having nothing to do with the article?

iPhone 4 Antenna

iPhone 4 has a problem. A problem that hasn’t been played out before it’s release. This is a legitimate, full fledged, we didn’t catch this in testing problem. The antenna looses reception when held by a lefty. YouTube video below.

There is a fix. It’s called a bumper, it blocks the human hand from connecting the circuit. Now, Gizmodo has a petition that you can “sign” to force Apple to give these cases (or bumpers) to everyone with the iPhone 4. I agree, even Apple is responsible for admitting mistakes. Will they, we will see.

Alright, don’t freak out if you happen to have noticed today that you have no followers. Twitter is fixing a force follow glitch, and the 0 followers/following is a side effect. My feed is still going nuts, even though I am not following anyone, but that’s beside the point. Here are some links that will show you why there is no cause for concern:

Pandora 1

Recently I read a post about 5 Music sites other than Pandora on Mashable. I found the main difference pulled out in the article is that Pandora lacks a Mood feature, a gross oversite by Pandora, agreed. But, after signing up for the Pandor 1 account, I think I am hooked. No advertisements, custom stations, and the ability to skip songs are all great features.

Now, if I was willing to pay to try the other services, I understand I would get most of those features. So, why did I chose Pandora? It’s simple. I got an email that said sign up for Pandora 1 for one month free.

I am in advertising, I know how important the word free can be in retailing. But I fell for it, and now I wouldn’t think about purchasing another service. Not for another 10 and a half months or so when my annual subscription is up. So, what’s my suggestion: for consumer’s it’s easy, dont get into long term contracts when you can avoid it and, if you can, test the services before you pay. For companies, let people use test your service before you make them reach for their Am Ex. Try it, track your conversion rate and determine for yourself if it is worth it, what have you got to loose?

Ning gets greedy

Ning announced earlier this week that it will be switching to a 100% paid subsricption model. For those 28 Million or so users that means ‘put up or shut up.’ Oh, by the way, Ning also has yet to determine their pricing structure so all those (including myself) that manage a free Ning account can’t even make a plan or budget.

For those of you looking into options, I have been researching quite a few. I have narrowed it down to two. Neither of which have completely won my “business.” First up is grou.ps. I have had so much trouble with bandwith for this site that I cant even attach a screenshot (as my computer has been loading the site for an hour). So, thats a no.

Second is grouply.com. Grouply is much less exciting or colorful than Ning or Grou.ps.

Load time is much less than Grou.ps, but what you make up in time you loose in beauty.

Currently I plan on waiting till May 4th when Ning has promised their pricing structure. From that point all free accounts will have 10 weeks to make a decision. Good luck!

iPhone 4g OS

Here are some links about the new OS for iPhone. Once again (no suprise) you will either have to have the newest device or buy the new phone. These features wont be avialable for Gen 1 or 3g, only 3gS, and 4g.
